R2G2 Project

R2G2 project at a glance

The R2G2 project is an internal proof-of-concept company project with the goal of designing and writing a 3D computer-aided design application for complex surfaces shape modeling, based on Bezier and Nurbs technologies, with the final goal of finite element modeling for the analysis of mechanical systems. The application is developed in C++ with OpenGL.

The challenge and the originality of the project consist in not using third-parties libraries. All the libraries used are developed specifically for the project.

The project is split into 2 gates

The objective of the first gate one is to deliver a 3D surface modeler computer aided design software application to design complex shape such as music instruments (violin instrument for example).

The objective of the second gate one is to deliver features for 3D Finite Element Modeling (FEM) and interfaces to Finite Element Analysis (FEA) solvers for 3D simulation and analysis of mechanical systems.

3D XML Project

Above a sample of XSD file used by the application software

3D XML project is an application software to extract 3D Geometry and Metadata (attributes) of a 3D Model designed with Aveva 3D application software into a single and readable neutral file (XML file) thanks to XSD file. The XSD file has been defined to match with Aveva Database and/or RVM file structure.
There are two operating mode: online and offline. The online operation mode works within an instance of Aveva PDMS or Aveva E3D. The offline operation mode works in a stand alone mode from RVM file.

In addition of this project, a second application software has been designed to convert the 3D XML neutral file to GLTF files in order to display 3D model with a Web GL Viewer using Google Chrome for instance.

For this project, we use the following technologies: Apache server, Node.js, MySQL, Python, Aveva PML2, HTML, CCS, JavaScript and Three.js, technology includes also a GLTF file converter and Draco technology.
